Iron Definition

Iron, also known as Ferrum, is a chemical element and also an essential mineral to the human's body.
The Iron forms part of the pigment which carries the hemoglobin (red blood cells) through out the body.
Iron helps to create myoglobin which is found in the muscles and contains oxygen in the muscles fibers to use in case of muscles activity. Therefore, lack of Iron makes a person feel tired and weak.
The iron also very important for enzymes activity; it helps to keep oxygen and turn the blood sugar into energy.
 

Sources of Iron

Red meat is a great source of iron, especially liver. Other sources are: eggs, chicken, fish, green vegetables, wheat, oat, soy, dried fruit, oatmeal, prune juice, peanuts, potatoes, and many more.
 

Lack of Iron

When the body lack of Iron the person might suffer from Anemia which is a disease cause by low level of red blood cells in the body.
A patient whom suffers from anemia will feel weak and tired all the time, will look pale, have pounding heart beats, breathe heavily, and more.
 

Excess of Iron

Iron excess is very dangerous and can damage the heart and liver and also cause diabetes.
The symptoms are: fatigue, high fever, stomach aches and nausea, dehydration, low blood pressure, and more. It is very important to give the patient an immediate medical attention.
